Mama in New England
This is us, as I navigate motherhood and enjoy the amazing adventure.
We are a family of four, a cat and a dog, living outside Boston, Massachusetts. I started this blog as a way to update friends and family who are afar, but it seems to have become somewhat therapeutic & helps me laugh when I need to.

Quote of the Week
We were at a sprinkler park in Belmont, chatting with a mother, she was telling us about her trip to the beach the day before:
"and you could tell it was almost one o'clock. All the kids were whining, no one was sharing, and then they started crying one by one. Time to go." This was all said with the best Boston accent ; )

Traveling Man
Going to see family in Southampton, New York over the weekend, Sam and I took the train to New London, CT, then the ferry to Orient Point, where Chris met us and picked us up. Other than missing a morning nap, Sam did really well! He is looking out the window here while eating blueberries. He spent the first 5 or 10 minutes of the train moving saying "bye-bye" to the scenery as it passed us by.

Spaghetti Dinner
This is his sign language version of "finished," to let me know he is done with dinner.
Now he is explaining it's time to go play with his toys, over there. There is no concern for the mess on his tray, the wall, in his hair, or on his lap!

Key
Sam is obsessed with keys lately, "locking" and "unlocking" anything that a key might possibly fit into- screw holes, gaps in furniture, toys, etc. So he tends to raid the drawer where all the old and loose keys are, and we generally let him wander around with them (we're picking our battles right now). Yesterday he was hanging onto the key to Chris's bike lock when we had to go on an errand, so to avoid a temper tantrum I let him take it. We made it around Whole Foods and back incident free. It wasn't until I was making my coffee this morning when Sam asked Chris for his keys and Chris responded, when something clicked and I froze. Oops.
Today Sam and I had to go back to Whole Foods where I sheepishly asked if they had located a single bike lock key. Oddly they had. They were rather surprised that we had realized we had lost it. It's safely back in the key drawer, at least until Sam finds it again.

And He Likes Coffee
I've taken Sam to Starbucks since he was weeks old, which might have been a mistake. I also continued to drink half decaf and half caffeinated coffee throughout the pregnancy. My friends claim this is why Sam likes coffee, though I beg to differ. Chris let him sip from his iced coffee today at the playground. We may have created a monster. The one thing I cannot share in the morning is my coffee!

Latest Favorite Things
Sam has some new favorite activities lately: trucks continue to be at the top of the list, along with his fascination with keys (trying to unlock everything he sees, from screw holes to locks, to divets in the floor and once we caught him seconds before he tried to unlock an electric socket), but his latest favorite activity seems to be to throw temper tantrums. He's really quite good at it unfortunately. His latest public tantrum was in the public library, because I am such a mean mom that I wouldn't let him run out of sight (and with my car keys no less). Here is a video of him doing circles from the living room to the hall to the dining room and back with his Lego truck. It ends of course, with a temper tantrum.
