Mama in New England

This is us, as I navigate motherhood and enjoy the amazing adventure.

We are a family of four, a cat and a dog, living outside Boston, Massachusetts. I started this blog as a way to update friends and family who are afar, but it seems to have become somewhat therapeutic & helps me laugh when I need to.

Moving

At least someone isn't stressed about it!

"Sam, what color do you want to paint your room?"
"Can I choose any color?"
"I suppose so..."
"Okay, then gold."
"Oh."

"Mom?"
"Yes, Vivian?"
"You paint a lady Minnie Mouse in my room like this:" (holds up hands to make circles in the air) "and I paint a little, baby Minnie Mouse next to it right on my wall."
"Hmmm..."

"Mom."
"Yes, Vivian."
"Where does our new house live?"
"What?"
"Where does the blue house live?"
"Um, I'm confused..."
"Where does our house now live?"
"Oh! You mean the name of the town!"
Exasperated: "yes mom, I says where does they live!"

Lemonade Stand

They made a decent profit for two hours of selling.  Turns out most people will give a dollar and not want change. Vivian wasn't very attentive to the stand, she left a lot, but Sam wanted to stay out there for hours more and make more lemonade.  Lanie just liked being outside and looking at trees and Sam.

Vivian's Lines

We're in that orderly stage with Vivian where everything is lined up (or parked).  The only thing that is really orderly around here...
though it makes it a little hard to walk...

CareBears

Sam recently got to choose a new toy, because he had to have a small operation.  He wanted to choose Vivian one also.  We went to Target and while looking for something for Vivian, came across singing Carebears.  Here is the slightly frightening GrumpyBear, which Sam thought was hilarious.

We then choose CheerBear and put in the cart with Lannin.  This is how she felt:

Although when we got home, she found entertainment in the bear that is about her size...

Or was held as a captive audience...

StoryTime

Vivian has been hosting story time in our living room.  I'm guessing it's based on the story hour at the library she goes to.

It started off with just her siblings but has lately become a bigger enterprise.

Lately the stuffed animals are put in time out for not behaving during story time.  A dolphin fell asleep and had to be removed.  Even Curious George got a little sleepy and was threatened with time out.  Sam's job is now to keep them awake while Vivian reads.  Nana attended story time the other day and yawned- it was a precarious moment.

Sam is now getting a little tired of story time...

Back at Work

Just went back to work to finish up the school year (and get my summer pay!).

It's been a challenge to say the least.  Thank god for coffee.  It's more the organizing and getting out the door in the morning than anything else, on limited sleep at best.  Lannin was sleeping in 3-4 hour increments until I actually started back and then regressed to every two hours, probably for comfort.  Thankfully I only returned for 2-3 weeks, though they seem like really long weeks...

Since returning I've done some pretty dumb things that I know about- not sure what dumb things I don't know about...

- I backed into a stationary trash can in Davis Square- outside Starbucks naturally.  The homeless gentleman on the street thought it was amusing, luckily no damage done.

- tore the house apart looking for my keys before work and found them in the ignition of the car from the day before.  The car was parked in the exact spot where a car was stolen about 3 months ago

- dropped and shattered an iPhone

- after going away for the weekend we left behind (luckily at a family house), an iPad, my wedding rings (I think), a puzzle, a book, and then when we arrived home on Sunday and unpacked realized Chris's car was at my work from leaving on Friday

- gone to an appointment on the wrong day and time and rearranged my own, Sam's, Chris's, and my mom's schedule accordingly so that I could do so

- emailed the wrong teachers about the wrong timeframe at work

- remembered food for a volunteer breakfast at work, for Vivian, for Sam, for myself, but not milk for the baby at the babysitters so got to spend the day pumping and running a milk delivery service across the street between teaching, meetings, and interviews

- forgotten at least 8 kids names at school and called several by the wrong name

On a positive note, school ends in three days, and to date all of my own kids are accounted for, fed, and clean.  And right now, by some miracle sleeping, which I'm sure won't last for long.
